so far, i am on Chapter Nine, Debt Unintended, and it is a great book. I hope that it ends a lot better then Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, that ending just ticked me off more then watching the episode of Charmed where Prue died. grrr. In my opinion, Jeff Starr, i think that you should write your own version of all of the Harry Potter books, i know that i would definatly read them. ok...this is really cool, some of the sketches are amazing but others... really could improve greatly. it is quite different then J.K.'s but that is good you are trying to do your own thing. that is really cool just watch out for your intrepretation of what some of the events might be someone may have a completly different idea on it than you and that is why people will think you are not interepting scenes right keep their ideas in mind too and explain your reasoning
otherwise this is great really cool and it follows the series almost com[letly

I don't know if anyone has mentioned it... but the DA coins were entirely Hermione's idea. The writing is good... you should go to college for it. You'll be amazed at how much you pick up. The tone seems a little off from JKR's... I'm not sure how yet... I'll give you more ideas as I keep going. |

The difference is... you don't have and editor. This is your sentence:
Whatever it took and wherever it took them, they would do what was necessary to accomplish the mission. To kill Voldemort was the goal that every living thing counted on, whether aware of the fact or not. Evidence of this mission was everywhere around Harry.
This is JKR's sentence: He had never learned how to repair wounds, and now he came to think of it particularly in light of his immediate plans this seemed a serious flaw in his magical education.
The difference is: your sentence is very clunky and awkward. The first part is probably too vague and at the same time, too dramatic for a publisher, (If JKR would consent... : )
"Whatever it took and wherever it took them, they would do what was necessary..." is overkill when you could say something short like:
They were ready to make sacrifices in order to finish Voldy. (Sacrifices is a stronger word... good for replacing the word mission, which is used twice.
My creative writing teacher gave me an exercise that has really helped me. Write your paper, then take a pair of scissors and cut out the parts that are rubbish you know repetative or wordy, etc. Just cut them and throw them away. Then piece the rest together.
That is one of the best ideas ever. I love it I use it ALL the time.

I don't know how long you've been writing, but this was excellent!!! I'm late in reading this, as Book 7 has come out and I have read it. Wasn't really that happy with it, it was o.k. not one of my favorites. I really enjoyed yours. Only a couple of things bothered me. The way Harry spoke, just didn't sound like the Harry we have known before. But, unlike J.K. Rowling, you finished the story perfectly, we knew what (almost) everyone was doing.

Overall I thought the story was pretty good. There were a some things that I didn't like, and there were a few things that I thought were better than J.K. Rowling's book (really good connection with the Department of Mysteries).
good points:
- I liked that you connected the Department of Mysteries. It was the totally perfect place for the war to end because that is also where the war with Voldemort started.
- I also liked the ending about their lives after the war, though I didn't like the point of view that it was told from.
- I liked that you had Snape save Harry from Voldemort. That was pretty cool and a good guess at what was really going to happen.
- I liked the description of Fleur and Bill's wedding - very romantic and detailed.
- I liked how you brought Harry's mom into the story and connected her with the Department of Mysteries.
- I REALLY liked how you had Harry remove his own blood from Voldemorts body and how you set Harry's scar as one of the Horcruxes. (By the way, did Harry's scar disappear afterwards?)
bad points:
- Draco and Neville's deaths were WAY to simple. Both of those characters were important in the first six books, so their death's should have been MUCH more detailed and complicated.
- Getting rid of the Horcruxes was way to easy. The war should not have ended quite so quickly either.
- Although I liked that you brought Viktor Krum back into the story, his character didn't really play much of a role.
-You switched between 1st and 3rd person way to much. All the books were supposed to be writen in 3rd person from Harry's point of view.
-Not enough dialogue.
- I really didn't like that you had Ron, Harry, and Dobby kill. The whole point at the end of the sixth book with Draco was that Dumbledore didn't want Draco to "taint" his soul by killing another person. I just don't think it fits for these characters to have done so, especially since they were dealing with the horcruxes. |

you really should continue writing that seriously seemed like it fit right in with the actual harry potter series. but in the end it probably should have showed voldemort dying in a more respectable way. but all in all it was and amazing book and could easily be an alternative ending to the beloved harry potter series. you are an amazing author and if you don't soon write more many people will be very dissapointed that you are letting such genius go to waste. if you continue sustaining us after the deathly hallows everyone will be able to continue enjoying tha adventures of the troublesome trio and we will all be grateful to you for bringing us such joy. Remember the story always continues beyond the books so you need to tell that story. i hope that you will take my advice and you will be able to suit everyone's needs and taste. you certainly made me both speechless and breathless.

That a fanfiction could keep me so interested as this one. Your writing style could rival JKR's! I couldnt believe the detail, the action, the intensity - not to mention the subtle clues you pepper into your stories. The sketches were great as well. I think you should go into writing, like write a book. I would definetely be a reader!

It was well done, you definitely have talent. On the downside, it was very militaristic, reminded me of Ender Wiggin in battle school (great series by Orson Scott Card), which is a big departure from JKR's style. It was also a big departure from the real HP books to have the "good" guys throwing around unforgivable curses left and right. Great for impact ("I can't believe Ron just did that!"), but undermines the innate goodness of the characters. You have to enjoy torturing someone to make Crucio work (was that in GoF that Harry learned that, or HBP?), I can't see them turning into sadists - if you turn as dark as what you're fighting, can your victory really be an improvement?
I realize that sounds much more negative that I want it to. I really enjoyed reading it, it's helped me make the holdover to June 21st, and it was well done. Ain't nothing like the real thing, I guess.

That was awesome! Although getting rid of the Horcuxes shouldn't be that easy cause Dumbledore lost an arm by geting rid of one. I liked how you went to the next generation at the end, that was a good idea! I hope the real book ends just as happily. |

Man, I was blown away after I read this. I enjoyed reading the book, it was awesome.
There are just a couple parts you left out, like what Dudley's worst memory was when the dementors attacked him, and who R.A.B was and how he got the locket from the cave, even though you showed where the locket ended up in Sirius' house.
other than that it was good.
I especially enjoyed reading about Electra and how you introduced her.
I can't wait to read the last book and I'm sure you feel the same way.
Again good job on Harry Potter and the Veil of Death.

Yeah i pretty much loved it...when i got to tha part about Snape sacrificing himself 4 harry i started thinking...'If this were the actual final book,then what would compel Snape to save Harry's life yet again..But then i jsut started reading again...when i got to the end where Dumbledore appears out of Voldemorts wand then i really got to thinking...What if Snape didnt kill dumbledore.? I've been anxiously awaiting the release of the final book and in the mean time have read many HP fanfics. IMHO this was probably the most well written. I feel that you captured the essence of the characters as written by JK Rowling. This story realy captures some great ideas and moments. I hope J.K. Rowling has read this, it is phenominal! You (Jeff Starr) inspire all of us to folow in your footsteps. This book has allowed me to dream and anticapate like no other thing in my life: nothing has allowed me to escape my daily life as Harry Potter does. I can't wait to go an buy the special edition of the last installment of Harry Potter.
Lastly i would like to congradulate you one more time on your great writing skills and time to put this toghether.

So, how did Harry create a Horcrux? I was confused by that. Murder? And why didn't Voldemort know what the scar was? If he created it himself? nice fanfic, though. I did read the whole thing. |

I'm impressed. A style of writing similar to her own, though obviously lacking in the dialog (I don't blame you though =P Makes it shorter!) Aside from Harry having a much more 'leader' like attitude in it and more confident that normal, very good. I love the ending, she is supposedly going to finish the book in a way that doesn't ''kill'' off characters; but closes and sinches ties. Very nicely done |

Jeff, I jumped to te end, curious to see if you shared the ending I mysef have floating in my head. My kids have begged me to write it all down, bt time is not on my side. I was amazed at how similar your ending was to mine, with the differences being small ones (Ron and Hermione have the twins instead, for instance). The biggest difference in "my ending" is something I think you have inspired me to write. It will just be an ending chapter. Thank you for your story (I am going to go back and read from the start now, I have NEVER read an ending first before). And thank you for the inspiration. |

I absoulutely LOVE your version of the 7th book!
I especially LOVE the parts with Ginny since she has been my favorite character since the first book!
I personally love writing Harry Potter books since first grade but have never written anything as well written as that!
